Konec avgusta 2020 je The Nation Thailand poročal, da je nižji odmerek andrographisa v predhodnem preskušanju pokazal koristi, zlasti pri kašljanju. V treh dneh sta se po poročanju znatno zmanjšala tako volumen kašlja kot splošna resnost simptomov. Po petih dneh so se drugi simptomi izboljšali, testi-polimerazne verižne reakcije (PCR) v realnem času pa so bili negativni na virus COVID-19 pri dveh bolnikih. Po treh tednih so bili testi PCR v realnem času negativni pri vseh šestih osebah. Konec decembra 2020 je vlada Tajske odobrila pilotno študijo o uporabi južnoazijskega zelišča andrographis za zdravljenje zgodnjih simptomov in zmanjšanje resnosti COVID-19.
